2009 Indiemixtapes Secret Santa Mix Exchange - CLOSED

Who's up for a mix Secret Santa this year? I think it would be a good way to meet new people and spread good music and goodwill throughout the nation. What I'm gonna do is, if I get seven or more of you guys to respond, match you all up and email you the addresses of your secret santa-ees and what theme you'll be following for the mix. Then, hopefully, you'll actually make the mix and mail it out. Before I tell you how to get in on it, some guidelines:

    - All mixes must be in CD format. Not everyone has cassette players.
    - No repeat artists!
    - Tracklists must be included.
    - Include a letter that tells your recipient a little bit about yourself and the theme of the mix, and why the songs you've chosen mean something to you regarding it. Also, include your LJ username, so they have some idea of who sent it.
    - Only people living in the US can apply. Sorry to the rest of you, but international postage is a lot. However, if enough people living outside of this country want in and are willing to pay the extra buck, I'll make a separate bracket for 'em.
    - Fill up the whole CD! No one likes wasted space.
    - Mixes must be sent by December 19th, so they come in before Christmas.
    - You can ask for help on here for songs for your theme, but you can't post the finished mix. However, if you really liked the one you received, you can post that.
    - Try to follow the theme to the best of your ability. It's given to make things easier, not harder.
    - Don't be a dick: actually LISTEN to what you received. It was made with love, damn it. Even if you don't like some of the stuff on the tracklist, go in with an open mind.

That seems like a lot, but it's really just common sense stuff. If you want in, reply with your email and I'll send you all of the details: your theme, the person you'll be mailing it to and their address. Like I said before, I need at least seven people to actually do this right, and I'm closing it off in three days. So, please, get in the holiday spirit, and participate. Who knows - you might meet a new friend, or at least find out about some good music.

    soooo....
i know this is probably nuts, but if anyone in the ny/nj area wants to go to the fiery furnaces concert in brooklyn next saturday, and wants to make friends with a total stranger, let me know. no one i've met here(in new jersey) even knows who this band is, and it's kinda sad. and this is the level i'm willing to reach to find someone...

    :)
I had the awesome opportunity to give Corrina in the Decemberists' Shop and extra hand on Friday. With all the new merch in stock, and the Waves dvd, and the Christmas season looming, she's definitely working overtime right now. Just wanted to say, if you are planning to order anything, it really does makes her happy to see little <3 notes added in the extra instructions box. :) I'll probably be giving her some extra help randomly throughout the holiday season, so everyone can get their sweet merch in a decent time. She is seriously the sweetest girl in the world and she deserves big thanks for all her hard work. Now that I've been in her shoes first-hand, I can tell you, her job is not easy! But she still does it with a big smile on her face. :)

    lunatic in need of help
hey, guys. i'm working on a playlist with a lunar theme--my friend and i each have crushes on cancer boys at the moment, which, as you know if you're familiar with astrology, means they are ruled by the moon. (:

therefore, i'm looking for songs that have anything to do with the moon, moon men, the lunar cycle, lunacy, etc. so far i have (in no particular order):

my moon my man by feist
    blue moon by the marcels
you are the moon by the hush sound
    the moon by cat power
    luna by smashing pumpkins
    lunar sea by camera obscura
full moon by the black ghosts
    moon river by henry mancini
over the moon by the innocence mission
    lunar one by seventeen evergreen
    beautiful lunatic by trevor hall
    moonrainbow by the comas
    moonshadow by cat stevens
    moondance by van morrison
fly me to the moon by frank sinatra
    moon pulls by mum

"Fifty Ways To Leave Your Lover Alone"

In this video Tracyanne and Carey are copying Simon and Garfunkel's look:

I've also spotted a very obvious very lovely David Bowie (gabicat), probably Dusty Springfield (the other blonde wig) and maybe Nana Mouskouri (with the glasses). The man in the scarf (Gavin) is Docor Who, there's a reference to the Fleetwood Mac cover "Rumours" (Kenny and blonde wig # 3) and I also got Motörhead's Lemmy (Lee). But what about lion girl? (Solved: Kate Bush.) The guy with the grapes? Who else do you find?

Here Come the Waves: HoL Visualized
So, who's seen the new movie? I just saw it in the theater here in Minneapolis, but it's also available in HD, standard and for rent on iTunes.

I thought about posting a review, but I'd rather be able to talk to people about it.
